Happy New Year!
We are starting a new year and it will be a very busy and fun one.
In Math the students are now counting and writing #1-75. They will learn the symbols < > =. They will be reviewing addition and subtraction.
In Social Studies they are learning about Martin Luther King Jr. and the Presidents Washington and Lincoln.
In Science we will be using the microscopes.
In L.A. we are writing in our jourals. We are reading the Saxon Readers. We are completing the alphabet letters and sounds. We have learned 29 spelling words.
My students are awesome this year, I am so grateful they are in my room.

Last month we went to the pumpkin patch and we had lots of fun. Everyone enjoyed picking out their very own pumpkins and learning about how pumpkins grow.

This month we are learning about the Presidents on the coins in Social Studies.

In math we have learned addition and subtraction and are working on writing our numbers all the way up to 50! We are also beginning to work with money and the values of all the coins and the dollar.

In science we are using magnifying glasses.

We are looking forward to having our school Thanksgiving Feast.

We have really all settled in to the school year and the students are doing a great job and are really progressing in all areas of learning!

First quarter is just about over. It sure went by fast, and the students have learned a lot and are really progressing. We have already learned 14 spelling words and studetns are eager to continue learning.

We had a great time last month on our trip to Apple Annie's. We got to pick apples and each student got to bring home a small bag full. They also learned all about how apples are grown and all the different parts of an apple.

In science we are growing lawn grass in little plastic cups so see the roots and how things grow.

All the students have learned the Pledge of Allegience and can recite it on their own. They have learned about the American Flag and about our country's heroes.

In reading, we have learned seven letters and their sounds and now we are putting those sounds together with our first phonics readers.

In writing, the students are doing great with writing their spelling words and especially at writing their names. They are using their journals to make sentences with their spelling words. They are learning about how sentences start with capital letters, end with periods, and every word has two-finger spacing in between.

We are looking forward to our next field trip to the Pumpkin Patch this month. Harvest-Fest will also be at the end of this month.

Welcome to Kindergarten!
I am so excited to teach Kindergarten again! My students are all great. We are going to have a good year!
This month we will be learning classroom and school expectations. In writing students will learn how to write their name, date and basic sentences. In Language Arts, we will be learning the sounds and how to write the letters L, O, and G. Spelling words for this month are I, a, to, at, no, go. In math we will be learning how to write the numbers 1-9 and the songs that go along with them. In Social Studies, we are learning about the flag and the Pledge of Allegience. We are also learning several patriotic songs that we sing after the pledge in the mornings.

This month is going to be full of fun activities. We will be having an end of the year party with all kindergarden with watermelon and spraybottles on the field. We will have our own classroom party and then of course Graduation.

I can't believe this is the last month of school. This year has gone by so fast. For me this month is what I call bitter sweet, meaning I am so proud of my student's accomplicments and that they are now ready for first grade, but I am going to miss seeing them. Please parents and student drop in and say "Hi" next year!

Spring is Here!

We have had a great year so far and now we are getting close to the end. I am very proud of my students! They have come along way in their reading, writing, and math skills.

We have learned a lot about animals and plants. We had a great time at Zoo going behind the scenes. The students got to see how the animals are cared for, where they sleep, and how and what they eat. We also learned that our class plus 6 adults weighs 2100 pounds, but the rhino at the zoo weighs 4000 pounds! Wow! We learned about how they train the animals to be ok with getting their shots, and how they get the tiger to show the trainers their teeth so they can check them. We also found out that sometimes the trainers will hide the animal food so that the animals will get some exercise trying to find it. It was really interesting!

In math the students have now learned addition and subtraction. They are working on writing and counting by 2's to 20. They already can count and write by 1's, 5's and 10's to 100.

The students are writing in their weekly journal using capitals, punctuations and correct spacing. Soon, we will begin to keep science journals. We will be observing vegetable seeds to see which seed will sprout first and record the findings.

Spring Break is coming up soon on April 21-25. This is our last vacation before the end of the school year!

Speaking of the end of the school year, we are excited for Kindergarten graduation on May 25th. More information to follow!

We are coming to the end of the Third Quarter this month! The students have been real troopers when it comes to all of the testing they've had to do for their report card grades. It was tough but they're almost done!

Our field trip to the Rodeo Grounds last month was a blast. The kids had a great time watching some calf-roping and learning about the different events of the Rodeo. We also got to walk through a stagecoach museum and listen to a real cowgirl tell us how to have character. We got a neat poster for the classroom summarizing the main points.

Cowboy Up: be a bigger person and learn to deal with your own problems
Make Your Own Path: Have the courage to do the right thing even if you're the only one
Make a Choice: Know how to choose a good path instead of a bad one
Be Tough: Resist peer pressure and be in control of yourself.

Later this month we'll be going to the zoo with the other kindergarten classes. We also have spring recess coming up on March 17 and 18, and a fun school dance on March 25th after school.

This month is an eventful one, with Valentine's Day and a field trip to the Rodeo grounds in store. The children will be making their own Valentine's bags, and on the 14th, they will be able to distribute Valentine's to each of their classmates and we will have an afternoon party. The field trip will also be exctiting. We get to tour the grounds and watch some of the contestants competing to be in the real rodeo events for later on that week!

The Love of Reading week is first week of the month, and Stephine Imes a reporter from the Arizona Daily Star came in and read one of her favorite books to us. It was a real treat.

In math, we are working on writing and counting our numbers backwards from the number 20. We're working hard on correctly writing and recogizing the teen numbers. Although the children have no problem writing numbers all the way up to 75, writing them backwards seems to be a little more difficult for them.

We are also learning a lot about safety this month. The school counselor has come in and talked to the children about stranger danger, what to do when they get lost, and how to keep themselves safe from people they don't know. They also learned about germs, bacteria, and viruses, how they get into our body, and how they make us sick. This is a good thing, because it's flu season, and everyone is getting sick! We have a few microscopes and soon we will look at some water samples under them and see what we can see. We're also going to be looking at snake skins, butterfly wings, and fingerprints.

Happy New Year!

We are now half way through the school year. Time is just flying by!

The students have come a long way since the beginning of school. They have learned how to read and spell twenty-seven spelling words, 16 alphabet letters and their sounds. In Math they know subtraction and addition and the symbols. They have learned about money and which Presidents are on the coins. We have studied the time (hourly) using the clock. In Science they have studied about plants, magnifying glasses, weather, the solar and the lunar eclipse...etc.

During this semester the students will be completing the remaining alphabet letters and sounds. They will also learn 28 more spelling words.

In Math they are learning the symbols < >, writing numbers to 100, and counting by one's, two's, five's, and ten's.

In Social Studies they are studing about Martin L. King and the Presidents (Washington and Lincoln).

In Science they will learn how to use the microscopes and digital cameras.

Students have bonded with each other and are getting along with each other nicely.

Seasons Greetings

The second quarter is almost over. Wow, the time is just flying by! I can't believe its going to be 2011 soon.

The students have been learning the alphabet and the sounds of letters. The class knows how to read and spell 23 words so far. In Math we are working on time (hour and half hour), addition and subtraction, and money. In Social Studies we have learned about Christopher Columbus, the Mayflower, The First Thanksgiving, and which Presidents are on the coins.

In Science the students have studied plants, and have been using magnifing glasses.

We are looking forward to our Honors Assembly and the Holiday Show.

Wow, it's hard to believe November is already here! The students had a great time at the Pumkin Patch and the Harvest Festival!

In Language Arts the students are still learning how to write the alphabet and pronounce the sounds of each letter. The students are progressing in their writing skills as seen in their weekly journals. In Math they are writing numbers 1 to 50 and are currently learning the concept of subtraction. In Science we have been and will continue to use magnifiers and study the weather changes. In Social Studies they will be learning about the Mayfower, the Pilgrims and the Indians. We will be discussing the meaning of Thanksgiving.

Wow, it's hard to believe October is here! Can you believe First Ouarter is almost over? We have alot going on this month.

We are reviewing all the letters (L, O, G, H, T, P, A ), numbers (1-25) and spelling words (at, no, go, so, me, it, I, a, to).

This month we will learn the spelling words (the, and ,my, he, him), and write and count the numbers (25-50). All about Columbus and us the globe and map to see his journey.

There is lots going on this October!

7th -will be the 40th day we have been in school so our class is having a free dress down day to celeabrate.

11th -Columbus Day

13th -the first report cards are given out.

14th-17th -Fall Break

22nd -We are going to Buckelew Farm to pick the pumkins.

29th- Harvest Fest

September is here!

I have a great class of students this year. They are all so eager to learn. Each have their own learning style and they all have unique personalities. This is going to be a awesome year!

This month in Social Studies we will be learning the Pledge of Allegiance. In Math we are writing numbers (1-10) and learning the math symbols (+, -, =). In L.A. we are learning the letter sounds and how to write the letters (L, G, O, H, T, P and A). Our spelling words are: I, a, to, it, at, no, go, so, me. In Science we are learning about the apple tree. We will be taking our first field trip to Apple Annie's orchard on September 16th.

Students are working on learning the six character traits which will include (respectfulness, caring, responibility, trustworthiness, citizenship, and fairness). They are hoping to get a "caught in the ACT of being good" ticket. Look for more information about the ACT tickets in the classroom news letter.

Welcome to Mrs. Dupray's Kindergarten Class!!

I am so excited that the new school year is finally here! It was such a pleasure meeting so many of you at Kindergarten Round-up. Mrs. Mea and I have so many great plans for this school year and we just can't wait to get started!

You will receive a newsletter on the first day of school and every Monday there after. The class newsletter will include a list of what homework to expect, the weekly curriculum and any important dates for the week and month.

We are looking for classroom volunteers so please let me know if you or another family member is interested. All volunteers need to notify the front desk prior to volunteering for required paperwork.
